How To Refresh Your Home Without A Major Renovation
Looking to upgrade your space? Here are seven of my favorite ways to refresh your home.
Reset and revamp.
Start by evaluating your large furniture pieces. Do you need all of them? Are they in the right spots? Try re-arranging things and see how it feels. And it’s helpful to have a few symmetrical elements—for example, a pair of chairs—so the space feels balanced.
Revisit your rugs.
Rugs add texture and color! They can be an investment, so look for ones that make a statement but will stand the test of time. Persian rugs are some of my favorites—they can really transform a room.
Pile on the pillows.
Pillows are the easiest way to refresh the palette of a space. Swap out your old pillows for ones with bold colors or patterns for an instant new look and feel.
Pay attention to patterns.
Bringing in patterns can totally transform a space. When choosing patterns, try to vary the scale. This helps create dynamic combinations that stand out.
Update your shelf décor.
Clean bookshelf displays add a lot to a room. Try stacking some books that match the room’s color scheme, and bring in sculptural pieces to create focal points. Books, pottery, and fine-art frames are the perfect combo for a sophisticated #shelfie!
Lighting is a luxury.
Lighting goes a long way in making a space feel warm and cozy. Find a piece of artwork that you want to highlight, or add a simple plug-in light or wall sconce to an area that can use some extra brightening.
Consider your kitchen.
You don’t have to do an expensive remodel to give your kitchen a refresh. Roman shades add color and pattern. Swapping out pendant lights, or adding a wall sconce, can make a huge impact. And don’t forget the rugs! Kitchen runners with patterns and colors create visual interest, and they make the room feel warmer and more comfortable.
