WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE ENERGIZED?
If you’ve been to a B3 class, you know that magical feeling you get afterward. Even though you’ve just pushed yourself to your edge, revved your heart rate, and felt that incredible deep-muscle burn, you leave feeling like a new person. You walk taller, you radiate strength, and you feel boundless. Instead of being depleted, you’re energized, both in body and mind.
Why is being energized on this level important? The obvious answer, of course, is that you can do more. And while this is certainly true—we can all accomplish more when we’re not lying exhausted on the sofa—we’re more interested in another (and, we think, more profound) benefit: When you’re energized, you’re able to be present in everything you do.
Consider a typical day. If you’re exhausted from the get-go, it’s all you can do to simply get through the day. You might finish all your to-dos, but you do so in an auto-pilot, check-things-off-the-list kind of way. You go through the motions, but you’re only half there.
But when you’re energized, that same day looks entirely different. Instead of plodding through, you show up—truly show up—in every situation. You’re open, you’re sharp, and you’re present. And (this might be the best part) when you bring this kind of energy, it’s contagious. Others can’t help but feed off of it, and suddenly a room that started out staid or negative is lifted, charged, energized.
Checking more things off your to-do list may be a side benefit of being energized, but it’s not the goal. The goal is to bring your best self to your life—and to encourage others to do the same.
