WE ASKED MOMS WHAT THEY REALLY WANT FOR MOTHER’S DAY
Come next Sunday, mothers everywhere will be gushing over toddler-made macaroni art and smiling through burnt toast and rubbery eggs served on a wobbly tray in bed.
And while they’ll love the sweetness of it all—truly, they will—we’re pretty sure every mom out there has a few other ideas of what she’d like on the one day a year that’s dedicated to her. For ideas, we asked the team at barre3 Headquarters what they really wanted for Mother’s Day and what they’re planning to give their own moms. Check out their answers below for inspo!
STEPHANIE SAVAGE, DIRECTOR OF LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
I want time with my family. I want to spend the day planting spring flowers with my kids and husband, followed by a nap in a hammock, a nice bottle of rosé, and dinner and great music in the backyard. All the food would magically appear in the fridge and the house would be clean enough that I didn’t feel the need to be distracted from our time together.
BIANCA TARTAGLIA, EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT AND OFFICE MANAGER
My mom and I are big Jane Austen fans and go to tea a lot, since I will not be able to go to a Mother’s Day tea, I am going to send her Pride and Peppermint Tea and this infuser.
DAWNN EIKENBERRY, SVP STUDIOS
My perfect Mother’s Day would be handmade cards or art from my kiddos, a family hike, a game or two of chess with my youngest, and a family movie. I travel a lot, so this travel kit would be amazing. I gave these water bottles to the mamas in my life, and I know they love them. And for something super special, this ring!
LISA SCHALE-DRAKE, VP OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
I always like to give my mom the gift of time. Now that I have my own kids, it is hard to find time to spend one-on-one with her. While we don’t get it exactly on Mother’s Day, I always try to gift a lunch together when we can connect as mom and daughter.
As a mom, I like to make it easy on the family so we can all enjoy the day together. Normally a hike (if weather permits) and then an easy dinner is perfect for me.
JORDAN MODINE, DIRECTOR OF CORPORATE STUDIOS
I’m 3,000 miles away from my mother, so I’ll be sending her a card, some flowers, and Face Timing her so we can connect. We’ll have some virtual mimosas.
For my mother here (boyfriend’s mom), we’ll spoil her with some outdoor time if weather permits. Her daughter and I will take her to a barre3 class, and we’ll get some coffee afterward. She’s a huge fan of our insulated water bottles, so I’d get her the new insulated state water bottle from the B3 Shop.
MICHELLE PRENTICE, SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
For Mother’s Day I want to go out for breakfast—my favorite meal—with my family, followed by an afternoon building and creating. My new favorite hobby is working with wood and creating new things: building shelves, frames, and benches for around and outside my home. I use them to hang plants or as planters, or to hide knick knacks or my kids’ toys! All of this would be followed by an evening stroll around the neighborhood, a nice BBQ, and some Dear Survivor Arroyo Cluster earrings as a gift from my kiddos!
For my mom, my brother and I are getting her a weekend stay and dinner at Edgefield!
ALLISON BEAM, LEAD INSTRUCTOR
I’m a huge fan of stripes and navy and need a spring refresh for teaching. Either these leggings or these will definitely be coming home from the studio—to be wrapped and given to me by my kids!
My favorite Mother’s Days are when I don’t have to think about what I have to feed my family for the entire day. Our kids and my husband get to plan it all out and I get to avoid all of my usual daily jobs and just be present with them. Every year we grab snacks from a favorite local coffee shop (Sisters is #1 for me!) and explore one of the beautiful college campuses in town (Lewis & Clark, University of Portland, Reed) to take in the flowers, the open space to run, and just enjoy the time together.
KIMI KOLBA, INSTRUCTOR TRAINER
My ideal Mother’s Day would be one with no plans—just going in the direction of the wind, resting our bones, and being with the people we love. It would be especially precious for my first Mother’s Day to be with my daughter and my mother, sharing that experience. And, rest is always a bonus, and a good home-cooked meal, and watching the sunset with the family. And for something to unwrap, I’d love the Arroyo Cluster earrings in the shop. They remind me of the desert here in Arizona! (Editor’s note: don’t worry, Michelle, we’ve stocked up so there are plenty for everyone!).
