THIS COULD BE AS DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH AS SMOKING
Most of us think of time spent with friends and loved ones as something of a bonus—a treat we get to indulge in after we finish the obligatory stuff of life, like jobs, errands, and housework. But recent research suggests that social connection isn’t just a “nice to have”—it’s crucial to our health.
How crucial? A study published in the British Medical Journal found that poor social relationships were associated with a 29% increase in risk of coronary heart disease and a 32% increase in risk of stroke. A separate study found that loneliness can be as detrimental to our health as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, and that it’s even more dangerous than known risk factors like physical inactivity and obesity. Loneliness has also been linked to increased blood pressure, depression, and compromised immune functioning.
In short, loneliness is outright dangerous. Ever since we opened our first barre3 studio 10 years ago, we’ve worked to help people connect with their community. Today, we’re taking our commitment to connection even farther by partnering with Bumble BFF, a social platform dedicated to creating and fostering friendships. How does it work? Simply download the Bumble app, set up your account, and start connecting. Stumped on what to suggest for a first meet-up? A barre3 studio class is always a good start. Want to deepen your friendship? How about signing up for barre3 Anywhere together?
We can’t wait to hear about your barre3 x Bumble BFF connections! Let’s end loneliness, one connection at a time.
