Studio Owner Spotlight: Tammy Hischke
I had the pleasure of visiting barre3 Frisco over Memorial Day weekend. I loved connecting with the community there and I was so impressed with barre3 Frisco owner, Tammy Hischke. In just three months after opening her studio doors she has built a vibrant, warm, and inspiring studio culture. I am so honored to have her on my team and I am excited for you to get to know her better!
I’ve been in the fitness industry for a long time. I’ve been a personal trainer, a Pilates instructor, an athletic director, and a health coach. At age 16, I knew I wanted to open my own business. Every single step I have taken since I was 16 years old has led me to this point. I’m so grateful that I can combine all of my passions and have my dream job. I wake up every morning excited because I love what I do and it doesn’t feel like work.
I learned about barre3 through Andrea Nakayama, a functional nutritionist that I respect very much. She and I studied at the same school, the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She kept recommending barre3 to her students, so I decided to sign up for the online workouts. I’m so glad I did! I immediately fell in love and realized that this is what I’ve been looking for.
I already knew that I wanted to be a part of the barre3 team before I set foot in Portland. Even though I didn’t have a studio nearby, I was impressed that barre3 delivered such a strong sense of community online. I felt connected. I love it when people who have been doing the online workouts visit the studio for the first time. They tell me how warm and welcoming it is, just like the online community. It’s so important to me and my team that we take care of everyone who walks through our studio doors.
Barre3 has taught me about my body. Now when I go try other methods or programs like Pilates, I know how to work deeper. Barre3 has also given me permission to honor my body and listen to it. Sometimes after running around teaching classes and running my children to sports practices, I need a more restorative workout (or I need to take the day off!).
I also love Sadie’s mantra to give generously. I give generously to my family by being fully present with them while I’m at home. I turn off my phone and shut down the computer, and I try to take in all the special moments that occur throughout the day. I’ve realized that if I’m not mindful, those special moments fly by unnoticed.
Nutrition is another big part of my barre3 lifestyle, and something I’m excited to share with my family. My kids aren’t so into kale yet, but that’s ok. I sneak it into their smoothies, and they don’t even know. Like most children, mine are picky eaters. Whenever I introduce a new food to them, I make sure to put it next to something they really enjoy. I tell them they don’t have to eat it. Once our family sits down for dinner, my kids start talking, and they end up eating the new food without thinking about it. Victory! (That’s a trick I learned from Andrea Nakayama. Thanks, Andrea!)
Teaching is my heart. I get energy from connecting with clients and seeing how they change for the better during the hour they spend in studio. Afterwards, clients chat in the lobby for 30 minutes after class. They go to lunch together. I am always hearing from people that they’ve met a new best friend. I’m so grateful that I am able to do that for them, and I am incredibly thankful for all that they do for me.
