Disconnect to Reconnect: Join Us For No Social Sunday
In today’s hyper-connected digital world, instant notifications and neverending social feeds can leave us feeling chained to our devices. With a swipe to refresh, we’re in the know about everything from the latest news to the just-posted updates from our friends and family. And because the updates never stop coming in, it’s easy to get locked into an all-consuming endless scroll. Suddenly our “quick check” has turned into an hours-long deep dive, keeping us up into the wee hours of the morning.
While social media can be a great way to connect, network, and keep up with the latest news, setting boundaries around it can help us cultivate a balanced and mindful lifestyle. It can be hard to remember that we are in control of our social-media intake. Rather than automatically reading and responding to every notification and message that comes our way, we can wait until we’re mentally and emotionally prepared to take them in, and then decide if and when we want to respond.
Here at barre3, we’re taking a step to evaluate and reconsider social media—not just how we consume it, but also what we put into the space as a company. Starting this Sunday—which is World Mental Health Day—we’ll be instituting No Social Sunday as a step toward creating a more mindful and grounded social-media practice. If you’re interested in joining us by staying off your social-media apps this or any upcoming Sunday, please do! We’re eager to hear how the time offline affects you and those close to you.
