JENNIFER BUCHANAN, BARRE3 TUCSON
For Jennifer, a go-go-go mama of two, B3 All In came at the “perfect” time. Following the birth of her second daughter a few months earlier and the delectably sweet holiday season, she was game for a change—and dove right in. “I printed out every recipe, grocery shopped like it was my job, planned every meal, and even kept extra snacks on hand knowing that nursing keeps me pretty hungry,” she says.
Fast forward 28 days and 19 studio visits later, and she’d shed 11 pounds—but it’s what she gained during the program that really made an impact. “I regained strength in my core that I’d lost during pregnancy. I gained flexibility. I can touch my toes for the first time in four years! I reframed how I feel about food, and I’m learning how to be intentional with how I fuel my body. I recognize that the most drastic changes aren’t visible—they’re the choices I make each day to move, eat good foods, and stay B3 All In for the long haul.”
ASHTON SPANN, BARRE3 MONTGOMERY (Cincinnati)
Ashton’s dedication to a healthy mind and body is truly inspiring. When the challenges of a past eating disorder and “less-than-perfect relationship” with her weight started to creep back into everyday life, instead of reverting back to old habits, she made a decision. “I vowed to be focused on living a healthier lifestyle instead of a number on a scale,” she says. With the support of everyone at barre3 Montgomery, she signed up for B3 All In, and worked five weekly classes and the recipes into her routine.
“A crucial part of that process has been surrounding myself with positive people in order to stay on track,” she says. “It’s been more about how I feel rather than just trying to lose weight.” And how she feels is confident, having built the strength to hold a boat pose and rock Reverse Planks. “I feel stronger and healthier than I’ve ever been, and I’m proud to say that I did it the healthy way,” says Ashton. “Barre3 makes me feel like I can truly love that full-figured girl in the mirror, instead of craving a time when I was nothing but bones. Cheers to a new year of me being kind to myself for the first time in a long time.”
DOMINIQUE ROARK, BARRE3 CAMAS (Washington)
Dominique, a self-proclaimed perfectionist (raise your hand if you can relate!), had one major goal for B3 All In: to not let stress dictate and derail her eating habits, workouts, and commitment to herself. With the support of her partner, Sharon, who joined in on the meal plan, she embraced the program and got off to a positive start. “By the end of Week 1, I was already feeling more energetic, more positive overall, and I was loving the food,” she says.
Fueled by the mind and body boost, Dominique spent the next few weeks perfecting her meal planning. “The more you do something, the better you become at it and find ways to make it your own,” she says. “I found that taking my measuring spoons and putting them in a glass so they’re at my fingertips instead of in a drawer worked great. Also, grocery shopping in phases instead of one huge trip on Saturday or Sunday helps keep things less overwhelming.”
Even as the hiccups of a busy schedule and work events made sticking to the program a bit tricky, Dominique made it happen. “Even on the hardest of days, making a healthy whole-foods meal—even if it was later at night than I would have liked, or I felt too tired to even start—was a true act of self-love,” she says. “And, of course, there is the increased self-esteem of knowing that I’ve made it through another week of five classes! For me, this was a springboard to change my habits, not just a 30-day blip. I won’t lie, I feel scared that I won’t honor my commitment to myself again and that I’ll slip back, but I’m going to really lean into the barre3 community of support and not let this amazing feeling go!”
KELLY POLCE, BARRE3 DC 14TH STREET
“Why can’t I do five classes a week in a studio?” Kelly asked herself just before B3 All In began. Sure, she’d originally planned to take three studio classes a week, but the feeling that she could do more helped bolster her goals. “So I signed up for five classes the first week, with four of them on weekday mornings,” she said. “And to my surprise, I got up and went to every class, and then I kept it up.”
Kelly says the brisk walks to 6:30 a.m. classes quickly became a new favorite time of day, as did the feeling of accomplishment to be finished just as the sun was coming up. “I realized I should have more confidence in my ability to make a commitment to my health and stick with it,” she says. “Plus, I found a new smoothie that I’ll keep in my breakfast rotation forever: the Rise + Shine Smoothie, which just seems so appropriate!”
