HOW BARRE3 HELPS YOU PERFORM AT YOUR PEAK: A RUNNER, A CYCLIST, AND A SKIER TELL THEIR STORIES
Whatever you love to do in your free time—running, cycling, skiing, kayaking, dancing, yoga—our goal is simple: To help you do it better. Whether you get your endorphin high with us in the studio or get things quaking with online workouts, the gains don’t end when you walk out the door or press ‘stop’ on your screen.
Instead, they carry over into the everyday—and, most importantly, enable you to enjoy your passions and pursuits while feeling stronger, standing taller, and finding a sense of balance in your body. We recently caught up with three active and inspiring clients who are enjoying these beyond-the-barre benefits, and asked them to share their stories.
MARY SMART, PORTLAND, OR
Longtime runner and marathoner
On Her Love Of Running
“I’ve been running regularly for fitness since high school, but it wasn’t until my thirties that I started doing longer runs and races. Running gives me an opportunity to be outside, get my heart rate up, breathe deeply, clear my mind—and it’s a very efficient way to exercise my dogs and myself!”
On Her Love Of barre3
“After having done barre3 for years now, it still challenges me every single time. It forces me to task my entire body, moving in all dimensions. I love the positive energy and the sense of community. It always feels like an hour well-spent.”
On Why The Two Pair So Perfectly
“A lot of running injuries can be attributed to weak glutes and hamstrings, and I know those muscles will get a good workout at barre3. Class can also be really restorative during busy weeks or when I’m in heavy training. In the past, when various injuries have kept me out of running, I’ve been able to continue doing barre3, with modifications as needed.”
On Her Go-To barre3 Posture
“I love Planks, especially later in class, when everything is fatigued and you can really appreciate how much of the body it works.”
JERA FOSTER-FELL, NEW YORK, NY
Social Media Coach and Digital Creator
On Her Love Of Cycling
“Cycling makes me feel so HAPPY! And powerful, inspired, and fully connected to my body and mind. I became a cycling instructor because I’ve gotten so much out of being a rider, and I want to be in a position to give that back to the people who come to my class.”
On Her Love Of barre3
“Simply put, it makes me feel centered and strong. I love that each class is always challenging in a new way. I constantly surprise myself with my strength in class, and I always feel sore the next day. Barre3 reminds me that I can push past feelings of physical discomfort a few more seconds than my mind thinks I can.”
On Why The Two Pair So Perfectly
“It’s important to mix up the way you move and to keep your muscles guessing. I do a ton of cardio with cycling, so barre3 provides a different method for me to focus on my muscles. It’s an incredible way to cross train. The first time I took class, I connected with areas of my muscles that I’d never even felt before.”
On Her Go-To barre3 Posture
“Anything that involves the barre and squats. Talk about those shakes and quakes!”
JESS WESLING, PORTLAND, OR
Avid skier and all-around outdoor enthusiast
On Her Love Of Skiing
“I’ve been a skier for almost two decades, and I go at least once a week. I love the mountains and I love going fast. It’s rejuvenating.”
On Her Love Of barre3
“I started with the intention of strengthening my legs, and instead, I’ve catapulted my whole body fitness, starting with my core. Barre3 strengthens my body all over and continues to challenge me in every workout. It makes me feel long, strong, and empowered.”
On Why The Two Pair So Perfectly
“Barre3 strengths my core, which allows it to turn on and engage when I’m making turns on the mountain. The low impact, high energy movements of class, combined with the muscle-quaking pulses and long holds, are just what my legs need for skiing.”
On Her Go-To barre3 Posture
“Bridge Lifts. They’re relaxed enough, but you’re working the biggest muscle in the body and it feels good. Love me some booty work.”
