barre3 Team Challenger Check-In: #b365
The barre3 Challenge isn’t a one-and-done healthy month. It’s a launchpad to your healthiest and happiest year ever. With that in mind, we asked our team of barre3 Challengers to share what they’re going to take with them into February and beyond. Here’s what they had to say.
The Challenge has taught me that I NEED to move more regularly, and that I can live without coffee. I feel very accomplished right now, and my own personal challenge is to stick with taking four classes a week.
This Challenge taught me many things. Cooking at the end of the day helps me slow down. Making movement a habit makes me feel better mentally and physically. Most important, it taught me that approaching things with the intention of being present is a lot more rewarding than trying to check them off an arbitrary list. I may still need to keep a list of commitments to remind me to keep up my healthy habits, but ultimately I have to do them for myself, not for the satisfaction of checking them off.
The barre3 Challenge was the best way to start the new year. I feel stronger and ready to take on 2016 and reach my goals. The Challenge taught me that with dedication and by eliminating doubt, you can do anything. Committing to four classes a week was sometimes hard, but the feeling after I finished was so rewarding. I’ve created a better routine of working out consistently and eating clean thanks to the Challenge. I can’t wait to continue this commitment in February.
I’m really happy I committed to not only doing the Challenge, but also to profiling my journey. I’m not sure I would have been as serious if I wasn’t documenting my progress—accountability makes a big difference! I feel strong coming off the Challenge, but most of all, I feel grateful. I often have to pinch myself that I have so many incredible resources at my fingertips—SIX barre3 studios in my backyard, a dynamic community I can plug into all day, everyday, and Sadie Lincoln in the office next to me. It doesn’t get much better! #blessed
This Challenge gave me permission to slow down, listen to my body, and trust my intuition. Doing the Challenge together as a team in PDX, along with hundreds of instructors and thousands of clients around the country, made me feel supported throughout this process. I’m fired up for the year ahead, and super thankful for the community that Sadie and barre3 have given me. Scheduling my sleep this month has been a game-changer, and I will continue this. My energy is sky high, I’m happy at 3pm every day (versus drained), my skin is clear, and I feel strong.
The Challenge turned out to be so much sweeter than I could have imagined. I’m so pleased to report my gains and losses throughout January. I lost negative self-talk and a critical eye. I also lost eleven inches and finally got through my postpartum weight plateau! What I gained is what I plan to carry with me through 2016 and beyond: the ability to enjoy. I don’t want to be tentative through my days, just waiting for the next chapter or fearful that the rug may be pulled out from me. I take with me the confidence to be exactly who I am without the fear of looking foolish for not doing everything perfectly or not having it together all the time. A daily reminder that I’m human and that I’m authentically trying seems to put a hard moment in perspective and make a sweet moment even richer. Cheers to a fantastic Challenge. Let’s do this #b365!
I made quite a few modifications to my daily habits throughout the month of January, and I’ve found that I’m struggling to keep them up all up in February. So instead of trying to do it all, I decided to focus on two key things that will greatly impact my whole-body health moving into February and beyond. The first is meal planning / grocery shopping on Sundays. The second is scheduling my workouts. I’ve noticed that when I do these to things to prepare for the week, my healthy habits are so much more likely to stick.
One of the best things I’ve learned from the Challenge is how to listen to my body and then do my best to make it feel as good as possible based on that. That has always sounded like a simple thing to me, but this past month I’ve actually learned it’s one of the hardest! I’ve been trying to notice when I’m hungry instead of just eating because I’m bored or need energy. Noticing if I actually need that cup of coffee or if I’m just running on autopilot and getting one because it’s rooted in my routine. Taking class and pushing myself to go because I know I can do it and I’m stronger now. That is the #1 thing I will be taking with me beyond the Challenge. I know it will always be hard work to listen to those cues, but this is such an important tool I’m so happy barre3 has taught me!
My cup is overflowing right now, and I could not be more grateful to my village and to barre3. I have an amazing community of friends who can be honest with me about my strengths and weaker spots (honesty is one of my most valued qualities). I need to create a weekly routine that allows me to incorporate work, rehearsals, auditions, and barre3 class four times a week. Though my strength has improved due to our incredible online classes and at least two in-studio classes weekly, the community at my studio is what makes barre3 home to me. I am unbelievably lucky to be a part of such a supportive home. I love that I’m challenged to serve to my community almost every day, and I look forward to continuing my journey to creating a happy, healthy lifestyle for myself.
How are you staying healthy and strong all year long? We invite you to post pictures to Instagram using the hashtag #b365 to show us how you’re keeping the healthy habits you created in January going. We’re talking about the green smoothie you whipped up for breakfast, the time you scheduled your workouts into your calendar since they’re important not-to-be-missed appointments, and the evening when you cuddled up with your dog to read a good book.
