Strength, Evolved: The Science Behind Our Newest Prop
Every barre3 prop is created with intention—to support alignment, deepen connection, and help you move through life with strength and ease. Our newest addition, the Long Resistance Band, takes that mission even further. With its soft fabric and long loop design, it supports deeper connection and alignment. More than just an upgrade, the Long Resistance Band is a tool for building functional strength and lasting core stability.
A Smarter Kind of Strength
For years, the classic Theraband has been a staple in barre3 classes. It’s simple, effective, and versatile. But as we looked at how our clients were moving—and what their bodies needed most—we saw an opportunity to innovate. The Long Resistance Band was born from that insight: a prop that feels as good in your hands as it feels in your body, created to support deeper connection through intentional movement.
Where traditional strength training often focuses on external load, the Long Resistance Band builds strength from within. Its dynamic, variable resistance adapts as you move, activating the deep stabilizing muscles that support posture, balance, and mobility. The result? Strength that feels sustainable—never strained.
“We wanted to design a prop that met our clients where they are,” says Lisa Schale-Drake, barre3 Subject Matter Expert. “The Long Resistance Band allows you to challenge your body while maintaining control and alignment. It’s about building strength that truly supports you.”
The Science Behind the Band
Research shows that resistance-based movement can be one of the most effective ways to strengthen your core. In a 2016 study published in the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports, participants using resistance bands activated their deep core muscles—like the transverse abdominis and obliques—more effectively than those performing traditional floor exercises.¹
Additional studies support what we see in our studios every day: this kind of resistance training improves balance, coordination, and body awareness while minimizing strain on the joints.² It encourages smooth, mindful movement that strengthens the body in a functional way—enhancing not just your workout, but the way you move through life. For our clients, that means deeper engagement with less strain.
Feel It in Action
The best way to experience the Long Resistance Band is to feel it for yourself. Starting this month, the prop will be featured in barre3 online workouts, starting with b3 Core with Christa Joy launching October 20.
In class, you’ll notice how the band deepens your core engagement, offering a tangible reminder of the way your entire body works together. Over time, you may feel more balanced, more aligned, and more aware of your movement patterns—both inside and outside the studio.
