Back to School: Pack Your Lunch the Eco-Friendly Way
We have a serious love of learning here at barre3, so back-to-school is one of our favorite times of the year. We’re big on packing healthy lunches and snacks, but not if it means using a slew of disposable products (all that waste!). So we’ve rounded up five of our favorite reusable, eco-friendly products to help make it easy to pack your lunch guilt-free. You’ll spend a bit more upfront, but you’ll save—both money and the environment—in the long run.
1. Zizzy Bee Bags: Master Trainer Regan Nelson loves these washable, reusable bags designed by Portland barre3 client Lisa Heydet. They’re free of BPAs and phthalates, so you can store your food in them worry-free. The 9”x9” size is perfect for lunches, and the 12”x12” size is great for road-trip snacks.
2. Built Lunch Totes: Lunch bags aren’t just for kids! Master Trainers Jenni Johnson and Kait Hurley always bring their lunches to work rocking one of these neoprene bags. They love them because they’re washable and big enough to fit not only lunch food, but afternoon snacks too!
3. Stainless Steel Bento Box: Once you get past the sticker shock, it’s hard not to fall completely in love with these bento boxes. The two compartments keep foods separate (meaning your strawberries won’t wind up smelling like your tuna salad), and the top compartment is divided into three sections, keeping mixing at bay. The plastic lid is BPA- and phthalate-free.
4. Oxo containers: We love our tea here at the barre3 Home Office—even in the summer—so nothing bums us out more than when it spills out of a supposedly spill-proof container. Thankfully, Oxo’s travel mugs are truly spill-proof (believe us—we’ve put them to the test many times). We couldn’t live without them!
5. Reusable straws: Sadie and her kids love sipping smoothies from these stainless-steel straws! They’re virtually indestructible, and they’re easy to throw in the dishwasher, so you can use them again and again.
