The Workout That Changed How One Instructor Sees Strength—And Herself
When Sasheen Shear first walked into barre3 Cherry Creek in the summer of 2012, she was a new mom searching for something she hadn’t quite found: a way to move her body that felt safe, supportive, and consistent. With her one-year-old son in tow, she stepped into the studio with curiosity and a hint of anxiety. “I had never tried a barre class before and felt nervous about starting something new,” Sasheen recalls. But that nervousness quickly melted away.
From the welcoming front desk staff to the Play Lounge for her son, the studio immediately felt like a place where she could belong. And when her instructor asked about her knee and shoulder injuries—and offered modifications to help her move safely—Sasheen realized she had found something extraordinary.
“From that very first class, I was hooked. I was exercising regularly and feeling successful in every aspect of the class. Embracing modifications allowed me to move in a way that felt strong and empowering.” For the first time, exercise didn’t feel like a test of endurance or a measure of guilt—it felt like a celebration of her body and its possibilities.
The Power of Community
What drew Sasheen back week after week wasn’t just the workout itself, but the way barre3 made her feel seen. “What truly sets barre3 apart for me is not just how the workout challenges, centers, and makes me feel good in my body, but also the genuine sense that everyone in the studio is seen and cared for,” she explains. The sense of community was palpable, and it would become one of the most meaningful parts of her journey.

From Dreaming to Leading
Even as she grew as a client, Sasheen had a quiet curiosity about teaching. While pregnant with her second child, she often dreamed of leading classes, but was held back by her anxiety about public speaking.
“I convinced myself that I didn’t have what it took to lead,” she admits. But that desire never faded. When the opportunity arose to join barre3 Belleview Station as a founding instructor in 2016, she decided to take a leap of faith. Becoming the first instructor to go through training at the new studio, Sasheen discovered the power of her own perspective and experience. “I realized that my knowledge of the body, my experience as a client, and my strengths as an instructor were all assets. I learned to embrace my individuality, trusting that my authentic self would create a unique experience.”
Mentorship and Growth
Sasheen’s evolution from instructor to Mentor, and now Lead Mentor, reflects a deep commitment to growth—both her own and that of the instructors she supports. She understands firsthand the uncertainty and vulnerability that come with stepping into a new role, and she strives to create a space where instructors can flourish.
“Learning a new skill set can be scary and daunting. I strive to lead with care, curiosity, and approach each instructor as an individual with unique qualities and strengths,” she says. By nurturing confidence and encouraging authenticity, she helps instructors—and clients alike—discover the power of moving on their own terms.
Thoughtful Teaching, Lasting Impact
Sasheen’s classes reflect that same thoughtfulness and care. Sasheen teaches with intention, aiming to make each posture a moment of awareness rather than just repetition. “I want clients to be truly present and gain knowledge, rather than just going through the motions,” she explains.
Whether it’s a cue about posture, energy, or breath, every detail is designed to help clients connect deeper with their bodies, and discover something new about themselves. By the end of class, clients leave not just stronger, but with a greater sense of self-awareness.

Redefining Strength
Looking back, Sasheen says barre3 has been more than a workout—it’s been a respite, holding her through different seasons of life. That constancy reshaped her understanding of strength—not as a single measurement, but as something layered and evolving. Physically, she’s learned that strength looks and feels different for everyone, and that honoring her body’s unique needs is key. Mentally and emotionally, barre3 has reinforced the value of consistency, patience, and self-compassion. “The practice has shown me that what I consistently apply in my life becomes my reality, and that I always have choices in how I approach challenges,” she says.
Words of Wisdom for New Clients
For newcomers, Sasheen offers both reassurance and encouragement. “It’s completely normal to experience a range of emotions when trying something new. My hope is that new clients not only feel like they’ve had an incredible workout but, more importantly, that they feel successful and well-supported.” In every class, she embodies the values that drew her to barre3 years ago: care, community, and the courage to show up fully.
“A Community I Didn’t Know I Needed Until I Found It”
Sasheen’s story is a reminder that strength isn’t just physical—it’s found in the connections we build, the risks we take, and the ways we honor ourselves along the journey. In her own words, barre3 is “a workout that is both challenging and accessible, designed for anyone regardless of their current season of life or fitness level. The impact of its messaging extends beyond the workout, positively influencing day-to-day life and fostering a strong sense of community. It’s a community that I didn’t know I needed until I found it.”
