BARRE3 EXPANDS FOOTPRINT AND ACQUIRES THE BARRE CODE
On the heels of our 15-year anniversary, barre3 is excited to continue the celebration with a BIG announcement. As we continue to lean in to growth and expand our mission to redefine success in fitness, we’re thrilled to share that barre3 has acquired The Barre Code—a midwest-based barre fitness company.
“I feel so grateful to expand our community of barre3 studios, owners, and clients by bringing The Barre Code into barre3,” says Sadie Lincoln, barre3’s CEO and co-founder. “The collective knowledge and passion The Barre Code owners bring is incredible, and we’re excited to join forces to enrich the lives of our clients by teaching classes that both balance the body and empower from within. We will continue the forward momentum as a team—we are stronger together.”
Over the coming months, The Barre Code studios will transition into barre3 studios with upgrades to existing studio locations, updated class formats, comprehensive instructor training, and more.
Barre3 and The Barre Code are aligned in mission and mindset, with a shared passion for empowerment, inclusivity, and growth. Founded in 2008 by Sadie and Chris Lincoln, barre3’s vision is to redefine what success in fitness looks like. The Barre Code was founded by Jillian Lorenz and Ariana Chernin in 2010 to promote personal growth and self-acceptance in the fitness industry. This alignment, along with a shared respect and admiration for each brand’s achievements, made the acquisition a natural decision.
“The Barre Code mantra has always been ‘we live to evolve’,” says Lorenz. “Ari and I have watched our owners do just that throughout the past 13 years, including weathering the pandemic and coming out stronger and even more committed to their local studio communities. These owners are resilient, strong, passionate leaders and we are excited to see them thrive in this next evolution with barre3.”
Barre3 welcomes this group of inspiring and like-minded Barre Code owners to its franchise owner network. This includes Lindsay Irrer, co-owner (with Janelle Fox Herbert) of four studios in Metro Detroit. The two met in college and would later partner to open four Barre Code studios between 2013 and 2019, with a total staff of 133, including 51 instructors. They are celebrating their 10-year anniversary this October, and are ready and highly motivated to continue growing their impact, now under the banner of barre3.
“We are entering an exciting new chapter,” Irrer remarks. “The class upgrades are intentional and impactful, our studio remodels will feel airy and modern, and the addition of barre3’s fine-tuned approach to mindfulness will grow the value that we provide for our community to live their healthiest and happiest lives. We have so much to look forward to in the months ahead as our studios become barre3.”
Barre3 and The Barre Code are not only in sync on the “why” behind the business, but also on the “what.” Just as barre3 recently expanded class offerings to include b3 Strength and b3 Cardio, The Barre Code followed a similar trajectory in adding strength- and cardio-based classes to offer variety beyond traditional barre classes. The current fleet of 220 Barre Code instructors across all studios is excited to embrace the next evolution of their fitness instruction journey. In the coming months, all 220 Barre Code instructors will train in barre3 class formats, as each studio starts to align their class schedule with barre3 offerings.
One of these instructors is Aubrey Moon, barre3’s newest Regional Instructor Trainer and longtime instructor trainer at The Barre Code Metro Detroit. Moon says, “Barre3 and The Barre Code share a mission to bring strength, cardio, and mindfulness to our clients. Our community has so much to gain as we transition to teaching barre3’s science-backed class formats, which will allow us to achieve new success in our local studios.”
Barre3 now boasts 185 studios worldwide, representing the largest omnichannel boutique fitness brand independently owned and operated by women. The Barre Code acquisition further cements barre3’s position as an industry leader.
