The barre3 community is unlike any other. Clients, instructors, front desk workers, studio owners and everyone we have the opportunity to connect with online—barre3 is what it is because of you. And when we designed this year’s January Challenge, we knew we wanted to reflect the vibrancy of this community you’ve helped us build.
Below, meet the incredible individuals whose wise words resonate with us deeply and inspire the intentions we’re taking into the new year.
Donna Vasquez
Donna is a model, actress, personal stylist, photographer, and lover of nature.
“Barre3 takes into consideration the whole person—the mind, the soul, the body, the heart. All of it.”
Brady Lange
Brady is a Portland-based fashion designer and long-time member of the barre3 team. You can shop his designs here.
“In my teens and twenties, I had a pretty bad eating disorder that I hid really well. In my late twenties, I had a moment where I really realized what was happening, and that my body is stronger than I give it credit for. For me, that’s a really strong body moment, realizing that this is my body and I need to take care of it. It’s strong, and it’s great just the way it is.”
Alexandra Gómez
Alexandra is a Portland-based writer, model, and photographer.
“The moment I felt most proud of my body has been during this coronavirus/Black Lives Matter/quarantine/unemployed bundle of stress. I became unemployed, I was realizing my own racial traumas, I was graduating from university during the height of protests here in Portland, and I was falling in love all at the same time. My body was all out of whack because there was too much happening. But I feel like getting over that hump and still being able to be in my body, appreciate it, love it, and go through this as opposed to backing away from it, that’s what I’m most proud of.”
Chelsea Beaudry
Chelsea operates her own business as a make-up artist, makes delicious latte art as a barista, and is an instructor at our Tulsa, Oklahoma studio.
“In hard moments, when you feel like you can’t stay in a posture anymore, I always say: Close your eyes, find your breath, connect with your body. Feel the sensations happening in your body. When you focus on your breath, that’s what supports you through to the end. And when you come out of the posture, you feel so much stronger afterward.”
Dannie Nicholson
Dannie is an art director and captures beautiful and authentic moments as a photographer. A breast cancer survivor, Dannie has translated her experience into her purpose as a Certified Areola Micropigmentation Specialist. Dannie teaches inspiring classes at our barre3 Eagle studio in Eagle, Idaho.
“The moment that I get up and I teach a barre3 class, and I feel really good in my body—that’s a good body moment. My difference is front and center, and I’m good with that. That’s been a long time coming for me. It’s taken me 45 years, but I’m really proud of that.”
Michelle Hepler
Michelle is a mother and barre3 online member (and just like us, she can’t get enough of Dustin’s workouts!).
“Doing that first workout after I had my baby was terrifying, so realizing that in that moment, the first time I worked out again, that my body still worked and I could still do all these things felt really amazing. My body is capable of so much and I was so grateful to have a strong body that’s able to have a baby and keep working out. It was a good feeling.”
Veronica Campos
Veronica is a model in Brooklyn.
“With societal standards, we’re used to things always being one way. But I think now, where we have full control over everything we do and with barre3 allowing you to customize your workouts and to focus on the points we want to work on—I love that. It’s about sticking to our own standards, not what societal standards believe we should be. It’s revolutionary, and it’s cool that we get to take our own initiative in our journey and to have a platform that supports that.”
Franny Loch
Franny is a barre3 Portland and online instructor whose energizing workouts are always packed full of wisdom.
“Being in group fitness classes was the first time I really was told that I had all this power inside me, and it was up to me to tap into it and let it out. I’m sure that those messages were being given to me by my parents, but going into a fitness class environment, especially when you’re surrounded by other women, and to be told that you’re capable, and resilient, and enough, exactly as you are for simply showing up. That blew my mind, and it changed the way I looked at the world.”
Becky Vice
Becky is a team member at our Highlands Ranch, Colorado studio (and has worked at barre3 Scottsdale studio as well!).
“Even during this year, we still find so much time to be busy that it’s so easy to forget to be in the moment. To be here and present. But barre3 does that so well and I think it’s helped me be a better friend, a better leader, and a better daughter. Barre3 helps me practice presence and has helped me learn to be exactly where I am.”
Kushal Shankar
Kushal is a self-described dog dad and plant nerd, and a member of our barre3 Cary, North Carolina studio.
“It wasn’t really during class that I had this moment of being really proud of my body. It was afterwards. I was just having a conversation with a friend over Zoom. We were talking about weight and body image, and people wanting to be skinny. And for the first time in my life, in all confidence I said, I don’t really care if I’m ever skinny. I just want to move my body and have health that reflects that. I just want to be happy, healthy and able to move—and realizing that brought me to tears.”
