barre3 Studio Owner Spotlight: Robin Little
A true leader, Robin Little empowers her team and clients to be their best every single day. Today, Robin explains how she brought barre3 to Mobile, Alabama and shares her tips for the barre3 Anywhere Challenge. Here’s Robin in her own words:
I had been doing high intensity exercise while I was living in Washington DC, but I injured my knee and had horrible stress fractures in my shins so I had to stop. A week after my physical therapist cleared me for activity, barre3 Georgetown opened. My good friend was teaching there, so I decided to check it out. I just loved the workout—it was unlike anything I’d done before! That first week I must have gone five out of seven days.
Right after my husband and I got married, he took a job in Mobile, Alabama so we moved here. Coming from a bigger city, I noticed that there wasn’t as much access to health and fitness education in Mobile. I wanted to change that.
Opening barre3 Mobile was more fun than I ever could have imagined. We all dream of finding a job that’s so enjoyable it doesn’t seem like work. Well, that’s what this is. My team is so intelligent and funny (they’re also incredible teachers!). Going to work is like hanging out with friends. And if I’m ever having a stressful day, I know I can just pop into a studio class to get centered again.
I’m so motivated by my clients’ strength and perseverance. One client walked into the studio during our opening week and told me that she hadn’t exercised in close to a decade. Now she’s in the studio four days a week. She emails me regularly with little success stories—one of her favorite tops that was too small is now too big. Those are the kinds of wins I live for.
I really see the workout and nutrition plan showing up on my body. One day I was upstairs and yelled to my husband to come quick. He raced up the stairs thinking that something was wrong, and I said “Look—I have a defined waist! You can see my obliques!” That’s how excited I was.
During my first barre3 Challenge, I picked up so many amazing habits that I still incorporate into my life every week. I recommend making yourself a priority, even if it’s just for 15 minutes. Maybe that means taking an Epsom salt bath to soothe sore muscles or grabbing a few minutes of quiet time at the end of the day to unwind. I think this is just as important as exercise and eating whole foods.
With the barre3 Anywhere Challenge in full swing, I’m telling my clients not to be afraid to kick a really old habit for something new. I used to drink coffee religiously every day—now it’s green tea Monday through Friday and coffee on the weekends as a special treat. When I made the switch, I felt so much more energized. My advice is to push yourself a little bit and get out of your comfort zone. It may be scary at first, but I promise you’ll start to like your new habits and over time, you may even prefer them.
Being able to help my clients at the barre and beyond is really the most rewarding part of my job. I used to be a political fundraiser, and I’d spend my days staring at spreadsheets. Now I get to spend my days directly making an impact in the lives of others. I’m so grateful to barre3 for that.
