Our favorite way to celebrate Valentine’s Day: Make a Workout Date
Whether we’re celebrating Valentine’s Day in the traditional sense or—our personal favorite—Galentine’s Day, we have a favorite go-to activity: Make a workout date. Of course we love that it’s good for our physical health, but even more than that we love how working out with someone strengthens the relationship. Have you ever noticed how some of your deepest conversations happen when you’re hiking, or some of your best memories are tied to playing a sport with friends? There’s just something about endorphins that breaks down inhibitions, stimulates ideas, and lets you get real with each other—and that’s where true connection begins.
We asked around the B3 home office to find out how our team will be celebrating Valentine’s Day this year. Read on for workout-date inspiration—today or any day of the year!
RISE AND SHINE. Being in charge of corporate communications means Michelle Jahnke’s days can get really crazy, really fast. Knowing she’ll be laser-focused on work from the minute she steps in the office, she uses the mornings, when her mind is fresh and uncluttered, to spend time with her husband, Joel. “Walking in the fresh air is such a good way to find peace and connect before you go your separate ways for the day,” she says.
EMBRACE TEAMWORK. Want a catalyst to connection? Do something that requires serious teamwork. Our Studio and Campaign Design Lead, Maddy Chandler, recommends a paddling sport, like canoeing or kayaking. “There’s something about having to be coordinated in order to move forward that’s so cool!” she says.
PUT A NEW TWIST ON “PROGRESSIVE DINNER.” Planning to hit your favorite dinner and dessert spots tonight? Take a cue from Digital Marketing Lead Jenny Konopinski and make getting there half the fun. Leave the car at home, hop on your bikes, and make it an active progressive dinner!
DANCE LIKE YOU MEAN IT. A slow waltz isn’t exactly going to get your heart pumping, but high-energy dancing definitely will. That’s why Senior Graphic Designer Jaclyn Hudak and her fiancé are heading to a salsa-dancing class. “I’ve never taken a dance class, and I’m the most uncoordinated person ever,” Jaclyn says, “but I’m excited about it!” And if she gets cold feet at the last minute? “We promised some friends we’d meet them there, so I can’t back out.”
SHARE THE B3 LOVE. Do you have a friend who you know would love B3 but has never tried it? Do a studio or online class together, and cap it off with a breakfast date. “One of my best friends had a baby a few months ago, and she’s ready to get her body moving again,” says B3 Magazine Editor Beth Collins. “I signed us up for a B3 class, booked her baby in child care, and made a reservation at our favorite breakfast spot for afterward.”
