We wanted some extra-festive mocktails to serve this New Year’s Eve, so we turned to food writer and stylist Ashley Marti, of Local Haven. Using holiday flavors as inspiration and focusing on fresh, healthy ingredients, she came up with three absolutely delicious creations exclusively for the b3 Kitchen. Make one—or all three—for your next holiday party!
Hot Cinnamon Apple Cider
This warming cider isn’t just delicious, it’s also good for you! Hot drinks help wash pathogenic viruses out of the throat, making them a great way to prevent colds and flus. The thyme has a strong antimicrobial effect, and the cinnamon acts as an anti-inflammatory.
INGREDIENTS
6 cups apple cider
1 tsp grated cinnamon
2 Tbs. maple syrup
1 cara cara orange, cut into wedges
1 small bunch of fresh thyme
INSTRUCTIONS
- In a medium pot, heat apple cider and cinnamon on medium-low until simmering. Add maple syrup and 4 sprigs of thyme and whisk until syrup has completely dissolved.
- Pour into mugs. Garnish each drink with an orange wedge and 1 sprig of thyme.
Pomegranate + Cranberry Punch with Rosemary
This antioxidant-rich punch couldn’t be easier to make. The stevia adds just the right amount of sweetness to round out the tartness of the cranberry and pomegranate juices without giving you an unwanted blood-sugar spike.
INGREDIENTS
4 cups pomegranate juice
2 cups cranberry juice
1 bunch of rosemary
8-10 drops stevia oil (or 8-10 leaves of fresh or dried stevia)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Combine the juices, rosemary, and stevia in a large bowl or carafe filled with ice. Mix vigorously to ensure that the drink is very cold and that the rosemary is able to properly release its essential oils.
- Fill glasses with ice, slide a small piece of rosemary down the side of each one, and fill with punch. Serve and enjoy.
Ginger, Mint + Honey Mocktail
Delicious and refreshing, this mocktail is also great for digestion thanks to the mint and ginger. Added bonus: The honey serves as an anti-inflammatory.
INGREDIENTS
6 cups water
4 Tbs. ginger, peeled and grated
6 bags mint tea
6 sprigs mint (save stems)
⅓ cup honey
2 limes, sliced into rounds
INSTRUCTIONS
- In a medium pot, bring water to a boil.
- Once boiled, remove from heat and add ginger, honey, tea bags, and mint stems. Let steep for 10 minutes.
- Strain the liquid into a serving pitcher. Leave out to cool until room temperature, and then move to the refrigerator.
- In tall glasses, layer a few lime slices with mint leaves and ice cubes. Pour the chilled tea over the ice, and serve.
