3 INNOVATIONS THAT ARE TAKING THE BARRE3 CLASS NEXT-LEVEL
If you haven’t done a barre3 class in a while, you’re in for a (muscle-burning, mindful) treat. Why? Because our training team is dedicated to—some might say obsessed with—researching the latest innovations in exercise, regularly working with top experts in exercise science, physical therapy, and mindfulness to evolve the barre3 class. Based on their exhaustive research, we’ve introduced some game-changing innovations over the past several months that have brought our class to a whole new level.
“Our mission at barre3 is to teach people how to be balanced in body and empowered from within,” says barre3 VP of Research and Development Lisa Schale-Drake. “And all of these evolutions support that mission.”
Read on for a rundown of the latest innovations to the barre3 class—and then head to the studio or fire up an online workout to feel the difference!
CORE SLIDERS
These pancake-size plastic and felt discs may not look like much, but they are wildly effective.
Incorporated into existing barre3 moves like Plank and Mid-Core, they create an environment of instability so that when we use them we MUST slow down and focus inward in order to strengthen our muscles within a move. This focus strengthens not just your physical muscles, but also your “be-present” muscles.
GUIDED BREATHWORK
While we’ve always incorporated breath awareness throughout our workout, we now dedicate the final portion of class to guided breathwork combined with deep-muscle stretches. While simple in theory—we breathe all day, right?—this breathwork helps your body absorb the work it’s just done throughout class, leaves you feeling calmer and more centered, and it empowers you with breathing tools you can take with you throughout the day. And since most of us are shallow breathers—a habit that increases stress and anxiety—these breathing tools are especially effective.
EMPOWERMENT
Empowerment, in a fitness class? That’s right. More than ever, throughout class we ask you to listen to your body to understand what it needs in that moment. Then, for every move you do, we offer modifications for that move. If Horse Pose isn’t feeling good in your hips, go with Sumo. Still not great? Narrow Athletic V is your best friend. If your wrists don’t love Plank Pose, modify by working on your forearms instead, or by taking it to the barre. When you ask your body what it needs and adjust your workout accordingly, you learn that you are your own best teacher. And here’s the wild thing: The more you practice this in class, the more likely you’ll be to bring it into other aspects of your life. Instead of looking to the external world for answers and validation, you’ll look within yourself. And that, to us, is the ultimate expression of empowerment.
